Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi-low begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further round of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in nearly all poker games.

The low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming collection of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals shooting for the high, as well as a few trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
