Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players often get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

While it seems complicated at the start, after a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an exciting array of betting options and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low.
