Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi/lo starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in almost all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complex at the start, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game easily enough.
