Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in nearly all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complex at the start, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an exciting range of betting options and seeing that you have many players battling for the high, and a few battling for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
