Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players often get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same concept in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

While it seems complex at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi lo provides an overwhelming range of betting options and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, as well as a few trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
