Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi/low begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players often get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in nearly all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an amazing assortment of betting options and seeing that you have many players battling for the high hand, along with a few shooting for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
