Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting follows in which players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. A further round of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another round of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult initially, after a couple of hands you will be able to get the base nuances of play easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha hi/lo offers an amazing collection of wagering options and seeing that you have several individuals battling for the high hand, along with several battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha Hi-Lo.
