Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in almost all poker games.

The low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

Although it seems difficult at the start, after a few hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha hi-low offers an overwhelming collection of wagering possibilities and because you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, as well as several battling for the low hand.
