Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same notion in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems difficult at first, following a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing array of betting options and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, and several shooting for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha High-Low.
