Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some players can get confused. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same notion in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many players shooting for the high, and several trying for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
